Managed to work on this page a bit today and a couple days ago. Got Terry and Rooster into the background, cut the highlight bits out of the overlay. Made an initial mistake of putting Terry on the wrong side but hey, that's why I draw all the characters separately.
Made a couple videos to share process on Bluesky though I don't think anyone really cared. Well, live and learn. I'll drop them here. First, the video showing how I compose the page by moving finished characters around, second, cutting the holes in the overlay, which I do with a mouse. Because I'm dumb.

Rodents for the holidays! I liked the videos. I am always forgetting the different techniques for all the different apps for adding highlights/shadows/fills over other layers. You can draw them precisely, lock the alpha channel and paint over the existing layer or use masks which can make doing those tasks easier in vector drawings. I see a lot of artists using bitmap colours using selection tool and fills which looks alot like what are doing with the pencil tool.
It's not the pencil tool, it's the knife. I'm actually 'drawing' the cuts with the mouse, which is kind of crazy. But I guess I developed those skills back with MacPaint and ComicWorks and they're still there. :D
That is kinda crazy! It works, though. I became more into trying non-destructive workflows over the years. Mostly because I have to work with clients, which means the more flexibility the better. ,
