A quick D&D character portrait. Had a lot of housework things to do today as well as some sound editing for the podcast so didn't have a lot of extra time. Did want to draw SOMEthing, so here's a little character thing. It's more or less successful.

Other things have kept me busy lately, so I haven't drawn much. January was good, February not so much. After pulling out an old image I liked very much:
...and pondering about whether it was 'finished' or not because it was still digital, I wondered if I could even still think that way and if I could, if I could use that approach to problem solving to make something more representative. I can though I don't know that I'd take it any further. It's a case of, "it works, but so what?" Fun, interesting for me to do, I don't think it brings anything to the table while I think the boxer image does. Now I just have to try and figure out why.

Haven't done any portraiture in awhile and since I've been seeing a lot of it on Instagram, I needed to scratch that itch. This was a quickie, maybe ten-fifteen minutes, no sketches, just paint. All things considered, I'm not unhappy with it. It's just a sketch. It could use more work, or it could be ruined past what it is. So I'll leave it and move on for the moment.

City Silent page 94. Took me awhile because there had to be so many layers. First the mice, which was the easy, fun part. Then the graffiti, a different style for each. Initially, I wanted to reflect real graffiti, to look like stuff that's been done and is being done. Smatt's is more or less in this vein. But when it came to Terry and Rooster, I couldn't find a style I could replicate that I liked. So I ended up doing something of my own and liked it fine. Perhaps that's the key to this part of the comic; don't make something that isn't me. We'll see.

Oops

Shit happens. I knew something felt off, but I couldn't put my finger on what it was. It finally occurred to me this morning that there was a line missing. Rechecking the script, sure enough, there was meant to be a line before the refrain. It wasn't a long fix, but all the text after "mine" had to be replaced. This means that the gestures of the mice don't really fit the lyrics, but they're not so off that I have to redraw anything. That will teach me to double check things... well, no, it likely won't.

Well, February isn't starting off all that well. I managed to get a page done today, which is good. Perhaps I slowed down for my birthday. Sure, that sounds good. Smatt has always been the loudest and most obnoxious of the cousins. My, me, mine, that's Smatt. Terry is more laid back, easy going and Rooster is just plain angry most of the time. More of their personalities will come out, perhaps, in coming pages. There's going to be a lot of them in this act and likely through the end of the comic.
