Another one of these to test out the Yiynova for some more organic shapes. The pencil sketch I did for this was really flowing and I didn't want to lose that. Eventually, I should be able to do the whole thing digitally. There's still something about pencil and paper that works better for me, though. Part of it is the ease of rotating the pad, something I can't as easily do in AI. This is also a harder way to make images as I have to be hunched over the screen. My workflow will improve if I keep at it... or I'll just keep using my pencil. :"D

A little experiment, no lines and low contrast. Was originally doing this just as a silhouette to see how I was doing in that respect, started adding details and decided to do a little vignette in fog. So there you go.

Morning warm up (how many posts have started with that?). Smatt, a little younger, a little chubbier. Just finished that portfolio, so I'm just messing around in the mean time. Work soon.

Just a little diversion as I worked on my portfolio today. Sent in another application to the internship program at Nickelodeon. I'd love to give that a try. Don't know that I have a chance as there are SO many people out there that want this and are a lot younger than I am. I'm sure that makes a difference, though I have life experience and have studied art and animation longer than some. Well, whatever. I've sent it off so now I forget about it until I hear something one way or the other. Anyway, did a challenging pose of Smatt to keep me limber today. Was fun to do. I like the mouse. He makes me work.

Haven't drawn a lot in the last week. Well, haven't drawn anything really. We've been very social and I've been working on a portfolio to send in to Nickelodeon again. So, nothing new. Did the first two of these yesterday just to have something to draw. Did the re-draw of Terry this morning just to push the rendering a little. Always like to have created something before work. Other than that, nothing much new.

Been working on another portfolio with the silly hope of getting another shot at the Nickelodeon internship. Well, they emailed me and told me there was another shot, so why not try? Anyway, I've been focusing on the material I've made since the last time I applied and also have been trying to work on new stuff just for the portfolio. This, this is WAY outside my usual stuff. Worked on her all day in one form or another to broaden my range. Initially, it was hard to draw a little girl. By the end, the line-less piece, she was fun. So hey, even if I don't get in, I'll have reached past myself, which is a good thing.

Another day, another Gap ad in my tumblr feed. So I used one of their models to ref for the Monkey. Just a little fun before I have to go plow the driveway as there's yet another snow storm to deal with. Wheee.

I generally think of Monkey as a happy go lucky kind of guy. That being said, perhaps he's not a morning person and needs that first bowl of rice in the morning to wake up. Or something. Just wanted to draw the guy as he makes me happy. Morning warm up before work.

Monday, March 10, 2014

Just some random stuff for today. The top one was done from a Gap ad that appeared in my Tumblr feed, something I really really hate. So I just used their photo for ref of my own. Take that! (Right, like it matters to anyone at all, least of all the Gap.) Second is just another one of the gym cat things. I've really had no idea what to draw lately but have still felt the need to draw. So at least I'm doing something. Well, off to work.

Forgot this one. Trying to change Flick's general shape a little so the rabbits silhouettes are a bit more varied. They do kind of all have the same build.

There's been som travel in the last week, and a good deal of directionlessness. I still feel the need to draw, so manage something at least once a day. I just haven't done anything finished in awhile. My goal here is to post more entries than the year previous and I've been falling down this month. So here are the last few images in my sketchbook. The Harlon images range from me just updating one of Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, to merging the old Harlon with the new. The Sharp images are me trying to let loose again and to adopt the more flowing style to earlier poses. The two cats are just.. cats. There's more time this week to draw than the last two, so here's hoping.
