This is one of the main reasons I like working in Illustrator. The smaller image is the actual size and the other is a blown up version. I often do details in 300-600% mag so I can get them right. I'm likely making more work for myself than is necessary, but it makes me happy.

I have been avoiding drawing in illustrator.. not sure why, I think the brush strokes look better 9at least in your work) than in photoshop. Still.... it scares me for some reason. I haven't even tried the tablet in illustrator yet!

Illustrator is a different animal. I wouldn't use it for traditional drawing though a friend of mine sketches entirely IN Illustrator, freehand with amazing results:

I use pen and ink for my linework, scan that, bring the 300 dpi jpg into Illustrator and use the live trace feature to turn those inked lines into vectors. Couldn't ink with Illustrator because it takes me too long and I get to finicky with it. But I couldn't make half my art without it.
